If you head to the eastern part of Glen Carbon you’ll find the wonderful Greenspace East Park. This area is perfect for any nature lover and walking enthusiast. You can enjoy the scenic Heritage Trail and Greenspace East Park Loop that will take you on a 4.3-kilometer journey. You can even bring your four-legged companions with you, however dogs do need to be kept on a leash.
The Greenspace East Recreational Trails Project has been under development which spreads out across 80 acres. This project begins west from Old Troy Road and east from Route 159. Greenspace East Park is designed for people to come and walk, jog, and hike. There are also some paved areas ideal for cycling or walking when the trails are too muddy.
There are plenty of picnic tables around, some of which are covered in case of adverse weather. The area is a great spot for any budding bird watchers, as bluejays and cardinals can be found in the area. The Greenspace East Park is the perfect place for families to come and spend the day.
Some traffic noise can be heard from the park, although it’s not that loud. You can enjoy your time in the park in peace, among the local flora and fauna. If you’re lucky you may be accompanied on a leg of your journey by a buck or a deer. There is plenty of space for games with the family or a picnic on the grass.
You can find the entrances to the park and the trails near the bottom of South Trace Road, as well as Paddock Lane. This is just off from the Ronald Foster Heritage Bike Trail. You may need to park on the public roadways if you are planning to visit the area.
